Ange Postecoglou’s record of injuries appears to have followed him to Nottingham Forest following the latest blow during the international break.
Micky van de Ven’s absence was the most notable for Tottenham last season, being joined by the likes of Cristian Romero, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
Those setbacks were often cited as a reason for Spurs’ awful form in the Premier League, with the Lilywhites sinking to 17th in the table despite winning the Europa League title against Man United.
Now, before the players have even returned to the City Ground, supporters are concerned that the same bad luck has followed the manager after Postecoglou, who became Nottingham Forest’s new manager on Tuesday.
Just 10 minutes into Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier against South Africa on Tuesday, 9 September, Ola Aina was forced off with an injury and needed to be replaced by Birmingham City‘s Bright Osayi-Samuel.
The 28-year-old played 37 games across all competitions for the Reds last season, becoming an integral part of the squad, but now there are concerns due to the nature of his injury while away on international duty.
Aina has struggled for form at the beginning of this season, but with limited options, he has continued to push for the Tricky Trees.

It is believed that the defender was holding his hamstring before being substituted, having also played 87 minutes against Rwanda three days before, and that leaves Postecoglou with a major headache.

Reacting to the frustrating news away from the City Ground, one supporter was concerned enough to claim that the “Postecoglou curse has begun”, which saw a common theme on social media.
Unsurprisingly, social media has exploded over the news, and for very good reason.
Another supporter is now waiting for injury blows to emerge for star duo Elliot Anderson and Nikola Milenkovic, with fans not being able to shake off the feeling of the new manager’s proposed curse.
Of course, it is all in jest towards the former Spurs boss, but it does not make for good reading ahead of the Reds’ Premier League clash with Arsenal on Saturday, 13 September.
Nottingham Forest fans will be hoping that if the injury is serious, Aina makes a swift return to action, as he’s one of their most important players.
