Morgan Gibbs-White’s new contract and Nottingham Forest’s stadium renovation plans are creating pressure for the club to continue to grow their revenue streams.
That is the view of football finance expert Dan Plumley, who told Football Insider exclusively that the midfielder’s new deal would “push that wage boundary”, increasing the need for extra revenue.
The Tricky Trees have spent much of their recent history toeing the line when it comes to the Premier League‘s financial rules.
Nottingham Forest were handed a four-point deduction in the 2023/24 campaign, and were part of the transfer merry-go-round in the summer of 2024 as clubs desperately bought and sold to avoid a sanction for failing profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

Since signing Elliot Anderson from Newcastle and selling Odysseas Vlachodimos, Orel Mangala, and Moussa Niakhate, Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side have been able to avoid any more brushes with the Premier League.
But in order for that to continue to be the case, and to finance their ever-growing wage bill, more revenue is required.

Nottingham Forest secured a £10million boost to their coffers by agreeing a one-year deal with Bally’s Corporation to be their front-of-shirt sponsor this year.
However, Plumley told Football Insider exclusively that the club will need to continue boosting their revenue to afford the added costs of being a successful Premier League team.
He said: “If there is a pay increase, as you say, it does push that wage boundary up a little bit, but Forest have increased revenues when they’ve been in the Premier League.
“If you’re going to increase wage bills, and every club has to, then you’ve got to keep bumping up the revenue line a little bit and Forest have been doing okay in that regard.
“They have got plans to develop the stadium and things in the future, and so they need to be a Premier League club to do all of that ultimately.
“That has been a huge boost to them, being able to do things like offering Gibbs White a renewal and a decent contract.”
In their continued pursuit of not only maintaining their Premier League status, but also achieving European football, Santo’s side have been busy this summer.
Anthony Elanga’s departure to Newcastle created a void on the right wing, and the Midlands club have responded by making two signings.
Omari Hutchinson has agreed to join Nottingham Forest.
