Nottingham Forest appear to have left it too late to sign Javi Galan from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

With Nuno Espirito Santo keen to add the final touches to his squad, Nottingham Forest eyed a move for Galan on transfer deadline day on Monday, 1 September.

The left-back made 37 appearances for Diego Simeone’s men last term, notching five assists in the process.

Meanwhile, Espirito Santo suffered a major setback as Nottingham Forest lost 3-0 to West Ham United on Sunday, 31 August.

Forest have signed players like James McAtee as they vie to enjoy success in both the Europa League and the Premier League.

However, the City Ground outfit are not set to welcome Galan, who was an unused substitute when Atletico drew 1-1 with Deportivo Alaves on Saturday, 30 August.

Fabrizio Romano revealed via X on 1 September: “Javi Galán and Nottingham Forest, deal collapsing as not ready in time for the documents.”

Football Insider verdict

Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Nottingham Forest will appoint a big-name manager like Jose Mourinho, Ange Postecoglou, or Brendan Rodgers if they choose to sack Espirito Santo.

Meanwhile, Espirito Santo‘s comments in recent weeks have indicated that his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis is not as strong as it used to be, even though the East Midlands side have enjoyed a largely successful transfer window.

Furthermore, missing out on Galan would exacerbate the negative feelings at the City Ground, which could prompt Marinakis to make a swift sack decision.

Espirito Santo’s men started the Premier League season well by defeating Brentford 3-1 on home soil on the opening weekend.

However, Forest subsequently drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace before losing 3-0 to West Ham, which was far from ideal for Espirito Santo.

The City Ground club will want as much strength in depth as possible to compete in Europe, so missing out on Galan is a blow.
