Oasis paid tribute to late Liverpool star Diogo Jota during its first live show in 16 years.

The 28-year-old died in a car crash in the early hours of Thursday.

Jota and his brother Andre Silva were travelling in northern Spain when their car was involved in a fatal accident.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after midnight, but Jota and his younger sibling, who himself played for Portuguese second-tier team Penafiel, were pronounced dead.

Their bodies were returned to their homeland of Portugal on Thursday evening with a wake held in Gondomar on Friday morning (July 4) and their funeral service to come on Saturday morning (July 5).

With tributes pouring in from everywhere across the globe, UK band Oasis have joined in paying a classy tribute to the late Liverpool No.

The legendary Manchester band played in front of 75,000 fans at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, on Friday, kicking off a world tour.

As lead singer Noel Gallagher sang their 1994 hit song  ‘Live Forever’, a picture of Jota in a Liverpool shirt appeared on the stadium’s screen.

The crowd reacted by cheering and applauding the gesture.

Red flares – to represent Liverpool FC, Jota’s club – were also blasted around the stadium as they remembered the footballer and his legacy.

Prior to the Oasis set, opening band Cast also recognised Jota.

John Power, the frontman of the Liverpool band, dedicated the song “Walkaway” to the Portuguese player.

“This is Walkaway,” Power said.

“This one is for Diogo Jota?

Take it easy, brother.”

Meanwhile, floral tributes have been laid out by supporters outside Anfield since the news of Jota’s death, while Liverpool also opened a book of condolences for the departed star.
