Arsenal’s new signing Viktor Gyokeres was in high spirits after scoring his first goal for the club in pre-season.

The Gunners ended their summer preparations on a high as Mikel Arteta’s side won 3-0 win over Athletic Club at the Emirates Stadium on 9 August.

Gyokeres was a relieved man after scoring his first goal for the club with a thumping header from a precise cross by fellow new arrival Martin Zubimendi.

Bukayo Saka also shone, netting once and providing an assist for Kai Havertz, as Arteta’s side now gear up for a testing Premier League opener away to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

For Gyokeres, the goal was an ideal start to life at Arsenal, setting a confident tone ahead of the competitive season as he shared a message following his first goal.

With the Swede making an instant impact in front of the Emirates crowd, Gyokeres shared a message of motivation ahead of the first league game with an Instagram post.

Ready for Sunday.”

Several of his new teammates showed their backing by liking the post, including Martin Odegaard, Leandro Trossard and Ethan Nwaneri, who recently signed a new deal with Arsenal.

Gyokeres arrives in north London with huge expectations after an extraordinary scoring record at Sporting CP, where he netted 97 goals in 102 appearances.

Arsenal had prioritised Gyokeres over Benjamin Sesko after RB Leipzig refused to negotiate lower than their asking price, and now the Slovenian has joined Manchester United, setting up a high-profile clash between the two forwards on 17 August.

While Trossard was among those showing support for Gyokeres, his own future at Arsenal remains uncertain.

Football Insider revealed that Trossard is open to a move away from Arsenal, with growing interest from both Premier League and European clubs.

Following the arrival of Noni Madueke, the Belgian is expected to fall down the pecking order and, at 30, is keen for regular first-team football.

Trossard ahd switched agents earlier in the window, fuelling speculation about a potential exit, and could be among the players to depart in the final weeks of the transfer window.
