Luis Alberto has been speaking to Rivista Undici about his career so far, and he made an interesting comment about his time at Liverpool.

Well, it was Brendan Rodgers who signed the Spaniard back in 2013, spending £6.8m to bring Alberto to Anfield.

In total, Alberto made just 12 appearances for Liverpool, before he was sold to Lazio for a loss at £4.3m.

As quoted by OKcalciomercato, Alberto said: “Of course, it’s true: it would certainly have gone differently if they had called me at another time, but there are those who throw away 15 years of their career; after all I have only wasted a couple of years.” It wasn’t said in a malicious way, it seems.

Funnily enough, Alberto actually went on to do great things at Lazio after leaving Liverpool, which suggests Rodgers made a mistake.

However, Rodgers never really used the playmaker much, which made the decision to sign him a strange one.
