Thomas Frank was completely let down by one of his most trusted stars as Tottenham clawed back a point against Brighton.

Tottenham drew 2-2 with Brighton during a thrilling Premier League clash, one which saw Spurs move to second in the league table while Fabian Hurzeler‘s side moved to 13th.

Yankuba Minteh opened the scoring after just eight minutes at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, 20 September, with Yasin Ayari doubling the Seagulls’ lead just after the half-hour mark.

Dominic Solanke has been sidelined for Tottenham, giving Richarlison the perfect opportunity to prove himself, and it was the Brazilian who grabbed a goal back to halve the deficit.

Jan Paul van Hecke‘s own goal helped the Lilywhites to travel back to North London with a point, but after Tottenham beat Man City earlier in the season, the rollercoaster nature of their form continues under Frank.

Guglielmo Vicario could do very little to deny Minteh’s opener, but the blame was purely on his shoulders for the Seagulls’ second as Clinton Morrison reacted to Ayari’s long-range strike.

“Ayari has a shot… Oh my gosh.

It’s poor goalkeeping.

It’s a good strike, but it’s poor goalkeeping,” he said live on Sky Sports News (20 September, 3:31pm).

“It moves a little bit.

Poor goalkeeping.

2-0 Brighton.”

Vicario had recently been tipped to be Tottenham’s new captain, having come on leaps and bounds since his arrival in the summer of 2023, but fans will not be confident after his costly error at the Amex.

Vicario has experienced a mixed spell in North London since his arrival, with some of his mistakes in between the sticks causing frustration for the supporters.

However, back in March [ESPN], Ange Postecoglou supported the shot-stopper, saying: “Vic is very, very passionate about this football club.

He is very passionate about what we are trying to do here.

“The guy is one of the purest human beings I’ve ever come across,” and Frank clearly sees that too, as he continues to trust the Italy international with one of the most important roles on the pitch.

However, if the former Brentford man is to keep sticking with him as the No.1 choice for the Lilywhites, he must get these mistakes out of his game, and quickly.
