Paul Merson could not believe what he was hearing about Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner live on air.
Football Insider understands that Palace are doing everything to tie Glasner down to a new contract, but plenty of rumours surfaced over his future at Selhurst Park over the summer.
It was clear that the manager was extremely unhappy as Marc Guehi edged closer to joining Liverpool last month, but his big-money transfer eventually fell through on transfer deadline day.
Palace also lost Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, leaving a gaping hole in the forward line, one that Yeremi Pino is currently trying to fill following his move from Villarreal during the summer.

And with the rumours circulating around the Austrian’s future, Merson almost second-guessed what he was told by Emma Paton about the manager.
Paton asked: “He’s only contracted up until the summer, isn’t he?” which caught Merson by surprise, as he replied: “Is he?
Oh wow…” on Sky Sports News (16 September).
“You’d like to think Palace would sit down and give him a new contract, even for the sake, if they do let him go, they get something for him.

“Even if he went, the Palace fans can never moan.
They can beat anyone on their day.”
It would appear that Man United are interested in Glasner’s services, and given that the manager led the Eagles to two trophies last season, it is really no surprise.
Ruben Amorim is under crushing pressure at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils winning just one of their opening five matches across all competitions, and that was after major spending this summer.
He has just 18 wins in his first 47 games in charge, while Glasner, on the other hand, has won 32 of his 69 matches in charge with far less spending power and multiple high-profile exits.
This is not the first time he has been linked with an exit, either.
