Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed Marcus Rashford was set for a scan on his knee after the forward limped off in the dying moments of Manchester United’s thrilling 3-2 win over Liverpool.

The Red Devils set up a FA Cup fifth-round tie with West Ham thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ sublime free-kick in the 78th minute at Old Trafford but the sight of Rashford hobbling down the tunnel will have put a slight dampener on Solskjaer’s evening.

Mohamed Salah set the tone in Sunday’s pulsating clash with an exquisite dinked effort over Dean Henderson in the 18th minute before Mason Greenwood quickly equalised with a well-taken strike of his own.

Rashford put the hosts in front for the first time in the tie with a calm finish shortly after half-time but Salah once again got on the scoresheet from close range to set up an enthralling final period at the Theatre of Dreams.

Depsite not having his best game, Fernandes was once again on hand to inspire United to victory and the hosts kept hold of their narrow advantage to book their spot in the next round.

Solskjaer was understandably delighted to see his team progress into the next round but the Norwegian will no doubt be sweating over Rashford’s fitness ahead of a crucial period for the Red Devils.

‘Let’s hope [everything is alright],’ Solskjaer said when asked about Rashford’s injury shortly after the final whistle.

‘His knee was bothering him so scan tomorrow and see where we are.’

Solskjaer added: ‘Marcus has played a bit down the right, down the left and we thought if we could switch the ball early to either side we can attack them.

‘Liverpool, they defend on the front foot so you’ve got to be quick on the break and I thought we did that well.
