Oliver Glasner spoke on the situation of Marc Guehi following Crystal Palace’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea.
The England international is a top target for the centre-back position this summer, even after the signing of Giovanni Leoni.
Back in March already, DaveOCKOP.com reported that Liverpool had made contact with the Palace defender and his representatives.
Furthermore, we exclusively revealed that he had an agreement on personal terms with the Anfield club.
An advantage for Liverpool signing Guehi is his homegrown status, which assists in meeting the Premier League’s squad registration requirements.
However, Palace’s negotiating position is complicated by Chelsea’s 20% sell-on clause, inserted in his £18 million move from Stamford Bridge to Selhurst Park in 2021.
It’s been reported that Crystal Palace want up to £50 million for their star defender.
However, it’s understood that the price will come down by the end of August, and that’s when Liverpool will likely make their bid.
Now Oliver Glasner has spoken on the situation of both Guehi and Eberechi Eze – who is wanted by Tottenham Hotspurs.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, the Austrian said:
“It’s good advice to the kids to not always believe what you read, especially on the internet
Who knows if the rumours that are written are the truth?
“Everybody tells people things for their own advantage.”
“I watch the players every single day in training, if most of the things that are written about them are true, the team couldn’t perform like this, be together and committed to each other like they are – it’s just not possible.”
“The 15, 16 players who had the most minutes last year are still here.
“There are a lot of rumours about Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi but they were 100 per cent with this group in Crystal Palace and they have proved that in a big way.”
Guehi’s homegrown status also sweetens the deal, helping the Reds meet Premier League registration quotas.
With Palace keen to avoid losing their most consistent defender on a free tranmsfer, negotiations are expected to intensify this week.
