Liverpool will come up against Marc Guehi, a center-back that it admires, this weekend, with Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner confirming that his captain will be in the starting line-up.
Guehi is inside the last 12 months of his contract at Selhurst Park.
Last summer, Newcastle United and Tottenham were both keen on the England ace, while he is also someone that Liverpool could move for having sold Jarell Quansah.
While Crystal Palace is desperate to keep Guehi, Glasner has admitted that the power is currently in the hands of the player.
"Marc and me, we have the same fate (a contract expiring at the end of the season), but I can't speak on behalf of Marc," Glasner said, via the Daily Mirror.
Everybody wants to keep the squad together because they did so well last season.
"But again, I don't know how often this happens here at Palace, keeping your top 15 to 16 players going into a new season when you've performed that well.
.
Crystal Palace will have a similar game plan to when it beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final a few months ago.
"Of course, Liverpool are always the favorites when Liverpool play against Crystal Palace," Glasner said in his pre-match press conference.
"As a champion against the 12th-placed team, and of course, how they acted again in the transfer market, how they strengthened their team, so Liverpool are the favorites.
"But Man City were also the favourites, and we won, so we expect to have chances as well, and that's how we're going to approach the game.
"The best thing about playing in this atmosphere, even if you have 40,000 or 45,000 fans behind you, is that you're simply responsible for playing to win, and that's what we're going to do."
Liverpool played Crystal Palace on the final day of last season, drawing 1-1
