As Liverpool’s pre-season ticks along and Arne Slot continues to shape his squad in his first summer at the helm, the focus for many fans remains firmly fixed on potential arrivals.

Alexander Isak was left out of Newcastle United’s kit launch, further fanning the flames.

But as the fresh faces arrive at Kirkby – bolstering options in midfield, attack, and even between the sticks – the natural knock-on is an increasingly crowded squad.

It’s a familiar story for top clubs: while supporters debate the depth chart and wonder who could displace the established names, on the fringes are several homegrown players searching for opportunity.

Someone inevitably has to make way if Liverpool are to maintain the right balance and stay within squad registration limits.

Few players illustrate that dynamic more than Tyler Morton, who, despite being highly regarded within the academy, found minutes nearly impossible to come by last season.

And clubs around are sitting up and taking notice.

French side Lyon are keen on signing Liverpool’s Tyler Morton this summer, according to the reliable Paul Joyce.

Writing for the Times, the Merseyside reporter revealed that the Ligue 1 side have already made contact with the Reds:

“Lyon are interested in the Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton, 22, and have made contact with the Anfield club.”

Joyce also adds that West Ham United are keen on the player but caveats it with the fact that they will have to sell some players first:

“Morton, who helped England to win the European Under-21 Championship in the summer, has also attracted attention from West Ham United.

However, they are looking to sell some of their present midfield options first.

It comes as no surprise that Morton’s attracting attention as the 22-year-old is surely itching to kick-start his senior career away from Anfield.

Opportunities at Liverpool were scarce for Tyler Morton under Arne Slot, as the midfielder was restricted to just five senior outings – three in the EFL Cup and one each in the FA Cup and Champions League

His progress was further hampered by a shoulder injury picked up in December against Southampton, which required surgery in February and sidelined him for a significant portion of the campaign.

Speaking to the RedMen TV while on the Asia tour, the academy graduate all but confirmed he wanted a move away, saying:

“I’m looking for game time, simple as that really,” he told The Redmen TV at the weekend.

“Last season was tough for game time for myself.

So, I learned a lot last year off players, manager, and stuff, but now I’m ready to play.”
