Liverpool are set for a busy end to the transfer window as they aim to get two big deals over the line.
The Reds have been given some encouragement over their ability to sign Alexander Isak, with Newcastle on the verge of completing a transfer for Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade.
Woltemade’s imminent move to Tyneside appears to have opened the door for Liverpool to finally go and get Isak.
What that means for the rest of the current Liverpool attack remains to be seen, and fans are intrigued to see how Arne Slot fits Hugo Ekitike, Mohamed Salah and Florian Wirtz in alongside Isak.
The one man who has been missing from the conversation a little is Cody Gakpo, who has quietly started the season in sparkling form.
But while his position in the Liverpool squad may be underrated by many, Slot is certainly a big fan of his countryman.
Happily, reports from the Netherlands suggest this admiration is set to translate into a new contract for Gakpo.

Gakpo has been a strong performer for Liverpool ever since his £35m arrival in January 2023.
The 26-year-old is never the most celebrated of the Reds’ attacking line, but has hit a respectable 58 goal contributions in 131 games.

And according to Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink, Gakpo is now set to be rewarded with a new deal at Anfield.
“For PSV, the battle with Liverpool will also be a reunion with Cody Gakpo from Eindhoven,” Elfrink posted on X, referencing Liverpool’s draw with PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League group stage.

“News is that he is on the verge of signing a new contract with the British top club.
That could happen quite quickly.
“Gakpo had signed until 2028 after the transfer from PSV.”
Although Gakpo is perhaps the likeliest to drop out of the starting XI should Isak arrive, it is also clear that he has a big part to play this season.

The Netherlands international has certainly started the season well, hitting a goal and two assists in two Premier League matches so far.
Slot trusts Gakpo and despite the likelihood of Ekitike playing from the left, he remains the most natural option to play wide left.
With so many games to come this season, Gakpo will still play a big part for Liverpool.
There were rumours earlier in the summer that Gakpo was being pursued by Bayern Munich, but any notion of an exit should be dispelled by a new contract.
There will be excitement to come at Liverpool over the coming days as some big new arrivals check in.
But this will quietly be an important piece of business which should hopefully mean the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister are next in line.
