It is often not just important what happens on the football pitch, but also off it.
A tremendous mount of hard work from everyone not on our television screens is vital to the success that we see.
Arne Slot was a terrific appoint by Liverpool, but it was also who he brought in with him that has helped him achieve such high levels of success during his debut season in charge of the Reds.
One thing that was quickly highlighted was just how available Liverpool’s strongest eleven players were throughout the campaign.
Fellow title challengers Arsenal and Manchester City saw their seasons fall apart as key players in both sides became sidelined with injuries.
A story Liverpool will be familiar with, as a staggeringly long injury lost during Jurgen Klopp’s last season in charge saw the season crumble due to overplaying too many players as a way of coping with the injuries.
However, Liverpool remained strong, a big difference on the season before, that saw 22 players miss a combined 362 matches in 2023/24.
This season, that number has reduced by an astonishing 64.3%.
It was clear that Slot highlighted the fitness of his players as primary concern.
This season, their record has been significantly more positive with 11 players forced to miss at least one game with a combined 129 games missed with the majority of those made up by Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley.
The man behind such magic is Ruben Peeters, the first team lead physical performance coach at Liverpool, who has been crucial in enforcing this change this season.
He worked closely with Arne Slot at Feyenoord, boasting a record of above 90% for player availability whilst with the Eredivisie club.
Peeters is a man defined by his attention to detail, and that has been clear to see with the amount of games that players have been able to feature in this season.
Liverpool will be thanking Peeters, as well as Slot, for a flawless Premier League campaign as it shows once again that the behind the scenes work at a football club is also vital to success.
When asked earlier in the season if it was down to luck that Liverpool had so little injuries, Arne Slot said:
“You cannot go through a season without injuries, it I smore the amount of injuries that you hopefully try to prevent.”
“It could be luck, but I hope that we do things in the right way that it is not only luck, but it is also doing things in the right way.”
