Liverpool are seemingly ready to accelerate their push for a new centre-back following Jarell Quansah’s exit from the club.
Quansah is set to undergo a medical with Bayer Leverkusen on Monday as he completes a move to the Bundesliga.
Following the Liverpool academy graduate’s departure, Arne Slot will be able to call upon just three senior centre-backs.
As a result, movement is expected in the market.
And as he enters the final year of his deal at Crystal Palace on Tuesday, Marc Guehi has emerged as a concrete target for Liverpool.
Reports over the weekend suggested Liverpool are ‘closing in’ on Guehi after identifying him as an ideal solution to their troubles.
But after another update arrived from Sky Sports on Sunday, it appears the Reds are not quite as close as has been claimed.

There is a lot to like about Liverpool’s interest in Guehi.
At 24, the Palace captain still has plenty of development to come and, crucially, he would fill a homegrown spot for the Reds.
Nevertheless, it is not all positive on the England international.
Despite having just one year left on his contract, he still has a premium price attached to him.

There have been claims that Liverpool will not pay over the odds for Guehi as he enters the last 12 months of his agreement and Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdams has now confirmed that stance.
“Our information here is that Liverpool are very much in the market for a centre-back, and they like Marc Guehi as he goes into the last year of his Crystal Palace contract,” McAdams reported on Sky Sports News.

“However, the price at the moment, we don’t know what fee Parish is saying he wants, but it needs to come down for Liverpool to be at the table.
“At the end of the day he is the Crystal Palace captain, Palace can say ‘we want £45m and £45m only.’ But do they want to risk losing him for free next year?”
While it has once again been ruled out that Liverpool will go above £40m for Guehi, there has so far been little indication of what they actually will pay for the former Chelsea man.
Given his status as a Premier League captain and a regular England international, Liverpool must be realistic and know that there is only so far Palace will drop on this.
Clearly, there is the chance to get Guehi for nothing next summer if everything lines up, but Arne Slot does need another centre-half bringing in before then.
In our opinion, Liverpool will be eyeing something in the range of £25-30m to buy Guehi this summer.
As Palace reportedly rejected an offer of £70m for the centre-back as recently as February, it simply does not seem probable that they will drop so low barely six months on.
