Liverpool returned to winning ways following their 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday at Anfield.

Those three points just about keep Liverpool in the Premier League title race, but it’s only a matter of time before it’s over.

After Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah hit the headlines for the wrong reasons against West Ham United, it was fitting that it was the Egyptian who opened the scoring against Spurs.

It was a deserved lead for the home side and Andy Robertson added to the tally on the stroke of half-time, before Harvey Elliott did his best Salah impression by scoring a stunning curling effort and Cody Gakpo also got on the scoresheet.

Yes, Klopp would have been disappointed with his team conceding two late goals.

But it doesn’t matter too much now.

When Arne Slot takes to the Liverpool dugout, it will be interesting to see which players he moves on and who he decides to work with.

One man you expect him to take under his wing is the club’s rising star, Elliott because he is one of the best youngsters in the country.

The 21-year-old was probably Liverpool’s best player against Spurs and his goal just topped everything off.

He was rightfully lauded and applauded in the comments section of his Instagram post by his teammates after the game.

Caoimhin Kelleher wrote ‘outrageous’ when reacting to Elliott’s effort and Tyler Morton added ‘Incredible mate’, whilst Virgil van Dijk sent a fire emoji, along with Wataru Endo and Luis Diaz.

Throughout this campaign, Elliott has played just over 1000 minutes of Premier League football and you feel it should have been more. 

He has completed 90 minutes on just four occasions and has three goals and four assists to his name.

The future for Liverpool is very much Elliott and he is someone Slot should be looking forward to working with and taking to the next level.

You wouldn’t be surprised to see Elliott become a key player for Gareth Southgate by then.
