Midfielders at Liverpool will forever be in the shadow of legendary former captain Steven Gerrard.
Having come through the academy to spend 17 years in the first team with the Reds, captaining them to huge trophies along the way, Gerrard is one of Liverpool’s best ever players.
The likes of Dominik Szoboszlai have been compared to Gerrard in recent times, but the truth is that there will never be another like the legendary No.
8.
Nevertheless, the goal of young Scousers everywhere is still to try and emulate Gerrard, whether while playing professionally or in the back yard with their mates.
One player who got to live out that dream, for a short while at least, was Tyler Morton, who idolised Gerrard while coming through the Liverpool academy.
But while he could never make a real mark with Liverpool in the manner of his hero, Morton has started to earn comparisons to Gerrard while playing for Lyon.

Morton has had a fantastic start to life at Lyon.
It may only be two games into his career in France, but the 22-year-old is already making waves.
A training clip of Morton went viral earlier in the week, while he earned a man of the match award for his display against Metz on Saturday.

Following that impressive performance, Lyon teammate Afonso Morreira took to his Instagram Stories to deliver some high praise for Morton.

“Steven Gerrard,” Morreira simply wrote, sharing a photograph of him and the former Liverpool man during the game.
He’ll know he has a long way to go to properly earn those comparisons, but they’ll still make Morton feel 10 feet tall all the same.
There is still a lot that can happen this season and football fortunes can change quickly, but Morton is showing that he has a chance to make a real name for himself at Lyon.
Les Gones have been starved of success in recent years, with this summer’s shame of initially being relegated leaving a stain on the football club.
If Morton can go in there and lead them back to the Champions League, for example, he could earn hero status in Lyon.
He only needs to look at the example of Scott McTominay at Napoli for another British midfielder who left his boyhood club, a giant of the English game, to be a huge hit in Europe.
If Morton can do that, there is potentially still a chance he could fulfil the legacy and become something approaching the next Gerrard at Liverpool.
