Rangers are reportedly pressing ahead with talks to sign Owen Beck from Liverpool – and while the Reds' £10m asking price is a problem, it's believed the Ibrox side are hopeful of a compromise.

The left-back has been heavily linked with a move to Rangers all summer while Celtic held a firm interest in the past although that has subsided since Kieran Tierney's return to Parkhead.

Russell Martin is on the hunt for a new player to nail down that position, having stripped Ridvan Yilmaz of his squad number and bombed the Turkish star out of his Champions League squad to face Panathinaikos.

Jefte is available but right-back Max Aarons has been the favoured starter at left-back throughout pre-season, indicating Martin isn't convinced by either of his natural left-backs.

We understand Rangers do view Beck as a live option and now Liverpool outlet Dave OCKOP claims talks are advancing.

It's added that Liverpool want around £10m for the 22-year-old but that Rangers are keen to negotiate a 'compromised' fee closer to £7m.

Liverpool's preferred option is said to be extending Beck's contact beyond its current expiry date of 2026.

But it's claimed Rangers would prefer to purchase him outright and make him the long-term solution to their left-back problems.

Beck, who previously impressed on loan at Dundee, played 24 times in the Championship for Blackburn last season and has three senior Liverpool appearances to his name.
