Mohamed Salah and Alexis Mac Allister are in the running for the PFA Players' Player of the Year award after stellar seasons - but Liverpool fans have been left baffled by Virgil van Dijk's omission.

Salah and Mac Allister are two of the six players in contention to land the award after helping the Reds win the Premier League title.

Bruno Fernandes, Alexander Isak, Cole Palmer and Declan Rice are the other four players who have been nominated for the prize, which will be handed out in August.



Social media has been rife with reaction to the confirmation of the shortlist, which was confirmed on Friday morning.



And some Liverpool fans were quick to express their surprise that Van Dijk has been snubbed from the final shortlist for the gong.

One fan wrote: "No Van Dijk is hilarious.

Standards through the roof," while another said: "This shortlist does not flatter the league.

Another social media user branded the snub "outrageous", posting on X: "No van dijk is outrageous he is EASILY number 2 behind salah".

The award is decided by selections made by Premier League players before being whittled down to six finalists.
