Newcastle fans reacted in unison to blame majority owners PIF after news broke that a fee has been agreed to sell Alexander Isak.

The Magpies’ summer window has been dominated by the uncertainty surrounding their star striker, with Isak pushed to leave Newcastle in order to force a move to Liverpool.

His stance became clear when Isak refused to train with the Newcastle squad and released a damning statement claiming that “promises were broken” after the club initially refused to sanction his exit without a replacement secured.

However, that replacement has arrived in recent days, with Newcastle completing the club-record signing of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart.

Liverpool have remained in close contact with Isak’s representatives throughout the window, and with a deal now agreed between the two clubs, his move to Anfield looks to be all but sealed.

In the early hours of deadline day, Liverpool finally struck an agreement to sign Isak in a British-record deal worth £125million.

The striker is now expected to undergo a medical before signing a six-year contract, with the transfer deadline looming at 7pm on 1 September.

Liverpool had already seen a £110million bid rejected for Isak, but the Reds returned with an improved offer for their number one target, which has now been accepted.

Howe’s side had struggled to land a forward throughout the window, missing out on several top targets as Joao Pedro wanted Chelsea, Hugo Ekitike joined Liverpool earlier in the summer, and Benjamin Sesko sealed a move to Man United.

The signing of Woltemade seems to have been the breakthrough Newcastle needed to sanction Isak’s sale, but the decision has only caused frustration among the fans.

Newcastle had initially demanded £150million for Isak, but Liverpool’s patience has seen them secure the deal for significantly less.

Reports in recent days suggested Isak could be sold in a cut-price deal, and a compromise would be reached before the deadline.

Now the Magpies’ majority owners PIF are facing heavy criticism.

One furious fan wrote: “We look weak now… not signing another replacement striker as well is disgraceful from our owners PIF” as another added: “So much for PIF wanting to be number one.
