Liverpool’s move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi has fallen through.

A fee of £35 million was finally agreed between the clubs earlier on Monday, with a matter of hours remaining until the summer transfer window deadline passed.

The England international had been due to undergo the first part of his medical in London ahead of a widely anticipated move to the Premier League champions.

But Palace pulled the plug despite the Reds submitting a deal sheet before the 7pm cut-off which afforded them an additional two hours to finalise the proposed transfer.

It is understood that talks were held between Oliver Glasner and chairman Steve Parish over whether Guehi would be sold in the final 12 months of his contract.

The Eagles supremo has made no secret of his preference to secure a fee for the 25-year-old rather than losing him as a free agent at the end of this season.

However Glasner is believed to have held firm on not losing another of the FA Cup holders’ leading lights following Eberechi Eze’s sale to Arsenal earlier this month.

Arne Slot’s side have retained Joe Gomez following the late developments on Guehi’s future despite the veteran defender attracting interest from AC Milan.
