Manchester United have eyes on a swoop for a top Liverpool target, while Sergio Aguero offers Chelsea a big transfer boost – both in all the latest Paper Talk.

MAN UTD EYEING LIVERPOOL TARGET

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Liverpool target Ibrahima Konate in their search for a new defender, a report claims.

Both clubs head into the summer transfer window looking to bolster their back line. The Reds only began the season with three senior centre-halves, all of which have suffered long-term injury. United meanwhile, are looking to find Harry Maguire’s long-term defensive partner.

RB Leipzig’s Konate is one player who Liverpool have been heavily linked with in recent weeks.

The Athletic first reported that Jurgen Klopp’s side have entered advanced talks for the Frenchman. The player then responded, insisting that he is not focused on speculation over his future.

Talk of the move has quietened since then, but Eurosport now reports that United have livened up the pursuit.

The Red Devils have a number of targets on their radar, including Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Villarreal’s Pau Torres.

However, they ‘have an eye’ on Konate and the 21-year-old is just as much of a target as the others on United’s radar.

Some influential Old Trafford figures believe that Eric Bailly could be Maguire’s long-term partner if he can prove his fitness.

However, with only a year left on the Ivorian’s contract, he has become frustrated, sparking the search for reinforcements in case contract talks fail.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to prefer Victor Lindelof, but could end his partnership with Maguire.

Konate, who would be available for around £34million, has played 10 Bundesliga games this season amid injury.
