Leeds United have confirmed that their appeal to have Pascal Struijk's red card overturned has been rejected by the Football Association.

However, Leeds still made the decision on Monday to appeal the red card referee Craig Pawson showed to Struijk during the second half of the game with Elliott writing on Instagram that he believed it was not a red card.

“We can confirm that our appeal against Pascal Struijk’s red card has been unsuccessful,” a statement from the Elland Road club read.

Struijk’s challenge resulted in Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott being stretchered off with a dislocated ankle during Sunday’s game at Elland Road.

"Harvey sustained a fracture dislocation of his left ankle during the game,” Moxon said.

But following a review by the FA, Leeds have now confirmed that their appeal has been unsuccessful and Struijk will now serve a three-game ban.

While Reds boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed after his side’s 3-0 win over that Elliott had sustained what he described as a 'bad injury'.
