The two know each other from their time with the Netherlands national side and have faced off a few times over their Premier League career, and so van Annholt couldn’t resist diving into Wijnaldum’s post when the chance arose.

Gini had posted a shot of him looking all dreamy and whimsical with the slightly cringe caption ‘What do you believe is written in the stars?’ This being football, after all, the answer is clearly something about how Liverpool are going to win the league with weeks to spare and Palace man Patrick van Annholt couldn’t resist jumping in on that theme.

Imagine the scenes if what started as a bit of fun on Gini Wijnaldum’s Instagram post turned into something a lot more real than that.

But then the rest of the Reds community couldn’t help seeing something else written in the stars: van Aanholt joining Liverpool as a back up to Andy Robertson.

Van Annholt has played 180 times in the Premier League and understands the demands of the English top flight and has been capped nine times by the Netherlands.

The Palace man is definitely more of a wing-back and has some question marks of his defensive work, but in terms of going forward this wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Roy Hodgson has one of the oldest groups of players in the league and the Eagles will need to rejuvenate at some point.
