Liverpool are positioning themselves to be ready to pounce as soon as the transfer window opens at the end of the season.

The Reds have had a stunning campaign and will finish it as champions of the Premier League.

But although Liverpool are in a wonderful place heading into the summer, there are still improvements that can be made to the team.

Several players are also set to depart, meaning Liverpool need to act fast in order to get the best replacements through the door as quickly as possible.

This is especially an issue at right-back, where Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave after almost nine years in the first-team Liverpool squad.

With Alexander-Arnold’s exit on the cards for a little while, Liverpool have at least had time to survey the options and pick a preferred replacement.

In fact, Arne Slot claimed he could start four players at right-back without a problem on Friday.

Despite Slot’s confidence, though, Conor Bradley will be the only natural in the position once Alexander-Arnold leaves.

As a result, it feels like that Liverpool will to look towards the transfer market.

And according to journalist Paul Joyce, Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong has emerged as the most probable signing.

“Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, who has a release clause of about £30 million and has been playing as a right wingback or wide right with the Netherlands, is a leading candidate should Liverpool look to strengthen in that position this summer,” Joyce writes in an article for The Times.

Taking to X late on Friday evening, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also further weighed in on Liverpool’s interest in Frimpong, claiming the Dutchman is ‘one of the main names’ on the Reds’ shortlist.

“Liverpool are well informed on Jeremie Frimpong situation and how the instalments are defined for his €35/40m release clause,” he says.

“He remains one of the main names on the shortlist to replace Trent with Frimpong expected to be eventually keen on the move.”

The Guardian also ran a story on Liverpool’s interest in Frimpong on Friday night, claiming the 24-year-old will be a target should the Reds decide to strengthen.

With Joyce employing similar rhetoric in his own article, it seems as though a brief has been issued that Liverpool are happy with their right-back options for now and trust Conor Bradley.

However, as much as Slot can talk up the likes of Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez playing right-back next season, Liverpool clearly need a second option.

As a result, the naming of Frimpong as an alternative is very telling indeed.

Liverpool have been linked with Vanderson of Monaco, while Sky Sports again confirmed on Friday that the Reds have been tracking Flamengo’s Wesley.

But the direction of travel currently seems to be that if Liverpool strengthen – and surely they will – it will be Frimpong who arrives.
