Even though the Englishman was getting linked with a move away from Anfield for most of the summer, nobody expected the Villans to come in for him at the last hour.

As mentioned, the eventual fee that Liverpool will be receiving is said to be worth around £35million.

“Liverpool have included buy-back and sell-on clauses in Harvey Elliott’s £35m move to Aston Villa,” he wrote.

“A lot of focus on money spent understandably but sales this summer.

“£236m guaranteed,£262m with add ons, total since last summer: £288.5m guaranteed, £324.5m with add ons.”

Although the exits of Elliott and Jarell Quansah will no doubt sting for a while, the fact that Liverpool included buy-back clauses in both deals is nothing short of sensational.

Of course, since both regularly featured off the bench last term, new arrivals needed to be brought in, and that is exactly what Liverpool have done.

To make things even sweeter, even if Liverpool don’t want to re-sign Elliott, the fact they also have a sell-on clause means that, no matter what happens, they’ll benefit from the 22-year-old’s next move.
