Liverpool have a little over three weeks left in which to get further business done in the transfer window.
The Reds have had a very good summer in the market, making some big signings and bolstering the coffers with several impressive sales.
But there are inarguably still improvements to be made in the Liverpool squad, and the Reds need to move quickly to make sure they get it done.
Focus in recent weeks has been on the forward line, with Liverpool still hoping to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle.
While that is exciting for supporters, there is also a clear need for Liverpool to bring in a player or two at centre-back.
And as they begin to firm up their options, one player in particular is starting to stand out as a key target.

Arne Slot has only three senior centre-backs heading into the season.
That needs to change over the next three weeks.
Wataru Endo has done well in central defence when called upon, and Slot has experimented with Andy Robertson, Kostas Tsimikas and Ryan Gravenberch in pre-season as well.

But it’s clear that none of that trio are naturals, and even just one more injury would leave Liverpool badly exposed.
Thankfully, The Times journalist Paul Joyce has confirmed that a centre-back is on the agenda for the Reds, with Parma’s Giovanni Leoni garnering ‘strong interest.’

Leoni is also said to be wanted by Inter Milan, with former Parma boss Christian Chivu having just taken over at San Siro.
Meanwhile, Joyce claims that Liverpool may also still follow up interest in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi if the asking price is reduced.
Throughout the summer so far, there has felt to be a lack of clarity over who Liverpool could target at centre-back.
Guehi is clearly an option, but the 24-year-old is unlikely to be a direct replacement for Jarell Quansah, who has left.
Instead, Liverpool have been on the lookout for a young defender who can slot into a squad role.
Numerous names have been mentioned, without any developing much further.
