Paul Scholes couldn't hold back his laughter as one football fan claimed Viktor Gyokeres looks like "he's playing with jeans on." The Swedish striker has started off his Arsenal career with a couple of goals, despite shooting blanks at Anfield and Old Trafford in the first three games of the season.

Gyokeres bagged a brace against newly-promoted Leeds United, but wasn't able to score on his Premier League debut for the Gunners against Manchester United - nor was he able to find the net against reigning champions Liverpool in a 1-0 loss at Anfield.

A potential lack of scoring prowess against tougher opponents, a theme of his time in Portugal with Sporting, has seen Gyokeres face some criticism from rival fans and pundits alike.

During an episode of The Overlap Fan Debate, Scholes and Carragher were discussing who could finish top scorer in the league when Spurs fan representative Ben Bowman sparked some immediate hilarity as he said: "[Gyokeres] looks like he's playing with jeans on."

As laughter ensued, Scholes waited for it to die down before pressing the point further as he said: "Did you hear what somebody said...

I don't know who it was, 'He looks like he's playing with jeans on.'"

The joke carried on, much to the dismay of the Arsenal fans present, and this discontent continued over onto social media.

Pathetic, but I’m not surprised."

Other fans chimed in on the debate, with many sticking up for Gyokeres in the comments.

This seems spiteful."

Another said: "Every player is loved until they play for Arsenal." While a third added: "Honestly this guys don't have shame, why is this even allowed, they always talk stupidly when it comes to Arsenal."

Despite the criticism heading Gyokeres' way, his previous goalscoring records speak for themselves.

It's hoped he can help end Mikel Arteta's wait for silverware.

He and Arsenal will return to Premier League action with a home clash against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, facing former Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou in his first game in charge following the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Following that is a tricky tie in the Champions League away at Athletic Club next Tuesday, before the all-important battle against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City at the Emirates a week on Sunday.
