Pep Guardiola has revealed he spoke with Jurgen Klopp about the possibility of Pep Linders becoming his assistant at Manchester City.
Lijnders was on Liverpool's coaching staff for a decade, joining the club as a development coach under Brendan Rodgers before operating as Klopp's assistant until the pair both exited the club last summer; Lijnders briefly left Liverpool in January 2018 to take the manager's job at NEC but returned fewer than six months later following his sacking by the Dutch club.
After leaving Liverpool last year, Lijnders had a second stab at management but it was short-lived once more as he was sacked by RB Salzburg in December.

Salzburg went on to finish second under Lijnders' replacement, Thomas Letsch.
Lijnders is currently with the City squad in the United States as the team prepares to get its Club World Cup campaign under way, and ahead of City's game against Wydad in Philadelphia, Guardiola disclosed details of a chat he had with Klopp.
“We had a conversation with Jurgen but not about Pep Lijnders,” said Guardiola.
“We just talked on our subject, it was as always a long conversation in certain moments and I suggested that I was thinking about Pep.
“He gave me his opinion, it was, of course, so highly of him because he was his right hand in one of the most successful periods of Liverpool.
“I asked for permission from Jurgen, of course, I didn’t want to interfere much but I said to him ‘would it be a problem for me to talk to him?’ and he said ‘absolutely not’, and we talked and decided in one or two days.”
Lijnders gained a brilliant reputation as an assistant to Klopp across his two spells at Liverpool, and many expected him to impress as a No.1 after years working under one of the best managers of his generation.

Lijnders' departure from Liverpool at the end of last season was confirmed at the same time as Klopp's, and at the time the German had high praise for the 41-year-old.
"The most influential guy in the last years at this club was definitely Pep Lijnders," Klopp said.
The inspiration he is for me is absolutely exceptional."
Coincidentally, Lijnders and Klopp were due to resume a working relationship of some kind at the start of the year, when Klopp began a new position as Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull, but a reunion with his old assistant was taken off the table by Lijnders' sacking.
Speaking ahead of leaving Liverpool last summer, Lijnders spoke of his fondness for the club and the city: "10 years of the club and my boys don’t know anything else, they are Scousers!
