Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has shared his candid thoughts on Liverpool and their manager Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp is gracefully bowing out, leaving Guardiola and City to seek out a new contender.
Over the past seven seasons, Klopp and Guardiola have engaged in fierce battles, with the City manager often emerging victorious.
Klopp’s tenure at Liverpool will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy, though it’s undeniable that, barring a significant turn of events this season, he’ll depart Anfield with just one Premier League trophy to his name.
Yet, Liverpool’s efforts under Klopp haven’t been in vain, at least according to Guardiola himself.
Throughout Premier League history, some of the most memorable rivalries have been fueled by the managers’ exchanges, adding layers of drama to the competition.
The long-standing clashes between Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger, as well as Jose Mourinho’s disruptive arrival in England, are testament to this dynamic.
Despite the heated battles on the pitch, there has always been a mutual respect among these managerial giants.
In remarks shared by Fabrizio Romano, Guardiola offered kind words for his counterpart when reflecting on the rivalry with Liverpool.
“I admire Liverpool?
Whatever happens this season, I admire Liverpool,” Guardiola said.
“When I said Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool always has been, it’s that, it’s the team that faced us, the real, real contender that faced us face to face, goes against you, six/seven years”.
Liverpool head to Fulham fully aware they can’t afford any further slip-ups, following a surprising 1-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace last week, which handed control of the title race to their rivals, Man City.
Having topped the Premier League standings for 11 out of the last 13 game weeks, Liverpool now find themselves in third place, trailing both Manchester City and Arsenal.
With just six games remaining in the season, nothing short of three points will suffice to keep their title hopes alive.
