Liverpool may not have made an offer for Kevin De Bruyne, but the very notion has got Pep Guardiola onto the topic.
The Manchester City manager has said that he would like 'the best' for the midfielder and his family in the face of joining an English rival.
De Bruyne has made over 400 appearances in the past decade for Man City, scoring 108 times and recording 177 assists.
Two of his six Premier League winners medals have been won after beating Liverpool in races settled by a single point.
Now, he is announced to be leaving the Etihad Stadium around the time he reaches his 34th birthday.
Despite reports suggested eleswhere, the ECHO understands that the Reds have not tabled any offer to their long-time adversary, with the Liverpool recruitment team looking elsewhere to improve Arne Slot's squad.

The Belgian has stated his belief in being able to continue at a high level, refusing to rule out the possibility of playing for another Premier League club, which breathes life into these kinds of rumours.
Now his manager, Guardiola, has been asked if he is bothered about the prospect.
"I don't know, I want the best for Kevin, for his family - the best," the Spaniard responded to the query.

De Bruyne has tentatively been linked with Liverpool at times in his career, harking back to footage of him as an 11-year-old in Genk's youth system revealing he supported the Anfield side as a child in the early 2000s.
Aston Villa are also said to have expressed interest in De Bruyne, recognising his Champions League pedigree, but this week's rumours have focused greatly on the idea of a switch to Napoli, with the Serie A leaders now frontrunners.
Otherwise, it would appear the choices of the Chicago Fire in the MLS in the United States or the Saudi Pro League remain alternative options on the table.
Talking about summer transfer activity last week, Slot said: "If I feel there's no way for us to improve, then we would have had a problem because I know - normally I always say 99.9% but now I know 100% - for sure that City and Arsenal will improve.
"That improvement will also come by (rubs fingers to show money) probably bringing new players in because that's what they did for so many years in a row, so we would be surprised if they don't do it now.
"But maybe we set the example that all of a sudden teams now feel like 'ah, maybe it's better not to buy someone because then you can win the league'.
I don't think that's going to happen, but you never know!

"They will improve, so we have to improve as well, and there is room for improvement for us.
But we've been really consistent throughout the whole season, and yes, you can improve, but consistency is the key to winning a title."
