Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have been the dominant forces in the Premier League for years now.

For several seasons, the two managers have competed head-to-head in the Premier League, consistently recording point totals above 90.

Such high tallies were rare before their tenure at their respective clubs, highlighting their exceptional impact on the game and indeed the Premier League.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool has experienced significant setbacks against Manchester City.

On two occasions, Liverpool has missed out on the Premier League title by just a single point – in 2018/19 and again in 2021/22.

Liverpool is the only team to have disrupted Guardiola’s dominance of the Premier League since the 2017/18 season.

During this period, Guardiola has claimed five out of the six available titles.

Liverpool is currently five points behind leaders Arsenal and four points behind second-placed Manchester City, with just three games remaining of the PL season

Additionally, Manchester City has a game in hand, further complicating Liverpool’s challenge.

Therefore, the onus is on Arsenal to relieve City’s chokehold on the Premier League – and to stop the Manchester club from claiming an unprecedented four consecutive titles.

Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are known to have a good working relationship, and the City boss has now agreed with Jurgen Klopp’s claims about fixture congestion.

What did Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp agree on?

In his pre-Tottenham Hotspur press conference, Jurgen Klopp lamented the fixture scheduling in the Premier League – even going as far as to say he will never watch TNT Sports again.

In the 2023-24 Premier League season, Liverpool has had more 12:30pm Saturday kick-offs than any other club, totaling seven after the recent 2-2 draw with West Ham United.

Klopp said:

“A little advice from an old man on the way out.

The Premier League is the best league in the world so it’s not overrated, the players are over-worked,”

Pep Guardiola, in his own media briefing ahead of Wolves on Saturday, says that he agrees wholeheartedly with Klopp’s concerns:

“I don’t know if it is the main reason [for English sides’ European exits], but I completely agree with Jurgen that it is one of the main reasons.”

“It’s not going to change?

Maybe next season we have three or four English teams in the final stages and for a long time it has been difficult.”

Guardiola has recently voiced his own concerns about scheduling problems.

He criticized the decision to schedule Manchester City’s FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea merely three days following their penalty shootout defeat to Real Madrid, calling it ‘unacceptable’.
