Former Liverpool assistant coach Pep Ljinders is reportedly set to become Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.
Lijnders left Liverpool alongside Jurgen Klopp after the German announced his decision to step down from his position at Anfield.
Upon leaving Liverpool, he took up a first-team management job with Austrian side RB Salzburg.
However, things didn’t work out for the 42-year-old at Salzburg as he was sacked few months into his managerial spell there due to poor results in the league and in Europe.
He is back in the job market and was recently linked with a first-team managerial role at Norwich City, with reports circling that he was set for an interview with the Canaries.
However, that has since died down and he is now linked with a move to Manchester City.
The news of a possible move to the Etihad as an assistant coach to Pep Guardiola was first touted by Fabrizio Romano.
Taking to X on Thursday, the journalist revealed that Pep Lijnders as well as former Liverpool man Kolo Toure are being examined as options for Guardiola’s backroom staff next season.
The Times has confirmed Romano’s claim, revealing that the Dutchman is now set to become Guardiola’s No.

Guardiola has been looking to bolster his coaching team following the departures of assistants Juanma Lillo and Íñigo Domínguez and he has identified Lijnders as an ideal candidate.
