It has been a season of highs at Liverpool with very few moments of lows.

A successful new manager, a 20th league title and key players committing their long-term futures to the club, it is safe to say the Reds have had an excellent season all round.

Liverpool will not want to stop there either and while they are at the top, their job now is to focus on staying there.

Retaining the Premier League title is one of the hardest tasks there is, but signing players like Florian Wirtz will not cause them any harm.

However, losing key individuals may do just that and Liverpool will already need to replace someone ahead of the new campaign, with Ryan Gravenberch sharing his disappointment as the Reds look for an alternative.

The Dutch revolution at Liverpool is clear for all to see, especially now with Jeremie Frimpong arriving, with the Netherlands playing such a huge role in Liverpool’s success.

However, unlike the Virgil van Dijks or Gravenberchs that get the praise, former assistant manager John Heitinga was one of the unsung heroes, with the former Everton player departing Anfield this summer.

The now-Ajax manager has been key in the development of certain players, none more so than Gravenberch, with the midfielder revealing to Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad his disappointment over his exit.

“Slot is a really good coach, with a great eye for detail,” Gravenberch said.

“I also talked a lot with John Heitinga about my game this season, watched a lot of footage too.

Personally, I’m a bit disappointed he’s going to Ajax, but I think they’re getting a very good coach.”

The 23-year-old has also previously admitted that Heitinga was someone he looked up to, telling The Athletic: “John Heitinga has been a really big help.

I watched clips with him, I had conversations with him about the position.”

Although none may be as inspirational to Gravenberch as Heitinga was, there are plenty of options to replace him as assistant manager.

Former Liverpool player Dirk Kuyt is in the mix to join the coaching staff, although anyone who comes in would likely be third-in-command behind Arne Slot and Sipke Hulshoff.

The most likely candidate would mean Slot is reunited with his former Feyenoord assistant Marino Pusic, with the 53-year-old having recently left Shakhtar Donetsk.

Whoever comes in to replace Heitinga may have big boots to fill, but with the club set up for success, it may just be a smooth and unnoticeable transition.
