Manchester City highly-rated midfielder Phil Foden has included Liverpool star in his all-time Premier League XI.

The 23-year-old is currently enjoying the best form of his career this season and has been prolific, scoring 22 goals in all competitions.

As the season reaches its climax and with the European Championship looming, Foden spoke with Mail Sport Football Editor Ian Ladyman to discuss his Premier League XI.

Foden named Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk in his all-time Premier League starting XI.

Van Dijk made his move to Liverpool from Southampton in January 2018 for a staggering £75 million, setting a new world-record transfer fee for a defender at the time.

His impact was immediate and profound, as he helped lead Liverpool to back-to-back UEFA Champions League finals in 2018 and 2019, winning the latter.

In his debut full season, he garnered widespread recognition by being named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and the Premier League Player of the Season.

Continuing his impressive streak, the 32-year-old contributed to Liverpool’s triumphs in the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

However, his most significant achievement came in the 2019-2020 season, when he played an instrumental role in ending Liverpool’s 30-year league title drought by securing the Premier League trophy.

Van Dijk’s individual accolades further underscore his impact on the game.

He stands as the only defender to have clinched the prestigious UEFA Men’s Player of the Year Award and was a runner-up for both the Ballon d’Or and the Best FIFA Men’s Player in 2019.

Additionally, he has been a consistent presence in the FIFPRO Men’s World 11, earning selection in three different years.
