Play stopped in Liverpool’s pre-season friendly with Athletic Bilbao as the Reds paid tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva.
The pair were killed in a car crash at the start of July when travelling across Spain, in order to return to the United Kingdom for the start of pre-season training.
Liverpool have paid their respects to the pair throughout pre-season, and that was again the case at Anfield on Monday evening.
Ahead of kick-off, Reds legend Phil Thompson and Bilbao president Jon Uriarte walked out to lay wreaths in front of the Kop as supporters sung Jota’s popular chant.

Within seconds of kick-off, Anfield burst into another rendition of Jota’s song as Liverpool continued to mourn and remember their late striker.
Play then came to a halt in the 20th minute against Bilbao as both sets of players and coaching staff joined supporters in taking part in a minute’s applause in honour of both Jota and Silva.

The tribute took place in the 20th minute in reference to Jota’s squad number during his five years at Liverpool, with Arne Slot's men leading 2-0 at the time thanks to early goals from Rio Ngumoha and Darwin Nunez.
The Reds announced their decision to retire the number across all levels of the club last month in honour of the Portuguese.
Liverpool recently announced they had commissioned a sculpture to be made in honour of Jota outside Anfield, created by recycling the tributes that have been left in memory of the Portuguese brothers outside the Reds' stadium.

A special fan mosaic and a minute of silence are also being planned for the first game of the Premier League season against AFC Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday August 15.
Meanwhile, a specially made ‘Forever 20’ emblem will be printed into the players’ new Adidas shirts and stadium jackets for the duration of the upcoming season.
