New details have emerged following the tragic car crash that killed Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, last week in Spain.
Spanish police have now confirmed that Jota was driving the Lamborghini at the time of the accident and was going “way in excess” of the speed limit.
The crash happened around 12:30 a.m.
Initial reports hinted at a tire blowout while overtaking, but speed has now become a key factor in the investigation.
A spokesperson from the Civil Guard shared, “All the tests carried out for the moment point to the driver of the crash vehicle being Diogo Jota.”
They added that further analysis is ongoing, and a final report will be handed to a local court in Puebla de Sanabria.

The experts believe Jota may have lost control while trying to pass another vehicle.
The Civil Guard said, “Everything is also pointing to a possible high excess of speed over the permitted speed on that stretch of the motorway.”
Road safety expert Javier Lopez Delgado weighed in, saying the crash likely involved “multiple factors” — not just speed.
“If they had been going at 55 mph, they probably wouldn’t have been killed,” he told La Opinión de Zamora.
To make matters worse, the stretch of road where the accident happened has a bad record.
Locals say wild animals often cross there, and another crash took place at the exact spot just a week earlier.
