Throughout June and July, Liverpool have seen an exodus of familiar faces, with Portuguese giants Porto set to benefit from this clear out of sorts.
John Heitinga left to take the head-coach role at Ajax at the end of May, with compatriot Giovanni van Bronckhorst arriving as his replacement.
Long-serving coach Claudio Taffarel and one-season incumbent Fabian Otte both departed in early July.
In their place, Xavi Valero – Rafa Benítez’s former goalkeeper coach – returned to Merseyside in a First-Team Goalkeeper Coaching role.
After 12 years at the club, Under-21s manager Barry Lewtas left to seek a first-team opportunity elsewhere, with former Wales manager Rob Page stepping up to the U21 role.
Meanwhile, now former Technical Skills Coach Diogo Paiva penned a message on LinkedIn last month announcing his Anfield exit, writing:
“Dear Liverpool Family, this club has been more than just a place to work.
It is a great club that will always hold a special place in my heart.
Widespread reports in Portugal, including from O Jogo and Record, now report that Pavia has made a return to Porto just one year after leaving and joining Liverpool.
O Jogo report:
“The 39-year-old Portuguese will take over the portfolio of individual player development, a role similar to the one he played in the English champion, working behind the scenes of Arne Slot’s technical team.”
“At FC Porto, he will have a comprehensive role from the academy.”
Pavia was previously at Porto from 2018-2024.
No reasons are given as to why the Portugal coach decided to close his Liverpool chapter so quickly.
