As the summer transfer window edges ever-closer, the rumour mill has started to turn once again for Liverpool.
Although throughout the season, rumours and links never seem to die down, as the transfer windows are just around the corner, the links get stronger and more prevalent.
Last season, the Reds made four additions to their engine room and more or less rebuilt the entirety of the centre of their team.
Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch have all made their mark on Jurgen Klopp’s team this term.
And, some would say, without the quadruplet joining the club in the summer, Liverpool would be nowhere near as strong as what they are today.
Mac Allister and Szoboszlai both made instant impacts upon joining the team.
His initial introduction to the pitch started off slow, however, he has since shown why Klopp chose to acquire his services in summer.
The Japan international is now even being put into the same conversations as Declan Rice and Rodri despite costing just £15.4m.
As Klopp will be leaving the club at the end of the season, it’s unlikely that any moves will be made at Liverpool until the new manager is introduced.
However, there have already been some murmurs around the Reds wanting to boost the strength of their defence for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.
Although Goncalo Inacio has a long history of being wanted by Liverpool, with the club even sending scouts to watch the youngster, they are now also being linked with his teammate, Ousmane Diomande.
That is, according to O Jogo from Portugal who state that Liverpool are in a ‘battle’ with the likes of Arsenal, Bayern Munich and even Chelsea for the signing of Inacio.
The Reds are also weighing up a move for his teammates Diomande after the duo have had a stellar season for the Portuguese club thus far.
However, with Xabi Alonso now being pulled out of the race for the Liverpool managerial spot, their sights have seemingly turned to other options.
One of those is current Sporting manager, Ruben Amorim who currently manages the duo which the Reds have been linked with.
If Amorim does take the place of Klopp at the end of the season, this could bode well for the Reds’ chances at acquiring the pairs services.
It would also allow them to develop an understudy for 32-year-old Virgil van Dijk as nobody knows how much longer he will be able to consistently play at the top level for.
However, the report goes on to say that a deal for the Sporting pair won’t come cheap.
Each defender has a release clause with Inacio’s sitting at £51.4m whilst Diomande’s is worth around £68.3m.
Which means if a deal is made, it would cost Liverpool almost £120m for each of the players.
Whether or not this is a feasible amount for FSG to fork out on two defenders is something only time will tell.
