Anfield is ready to celebrate again, but the job’s not quite done on the pitch.
Liverpool have already wrapped up the Premier League title, but there’s still pride to play for.
And when it’s Arsenal coming to town, there’s never any room for sloppiness.
Last weekend’s 3-1 loss at Chelsea was a reality check.
A heavily rotated team didn’t live up to the usual standards.
Arne Slot, who has been managing his squad carefully since securing the title, now faces a balancing act.
Liverpool’s clash with Arsenal is their first home game since becoming champions, and the fans will expect a proper showing.
It’s also a test of mentality.
Winning the league early can lead to a dip.
Slot knows that.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are hurting after their Champions League exit.
They’ll be looking to spoil the party.
Liverpool need to respond — and respond strong.
This time, Slot is expected to bring back some of his key men.
One of the first confirmed changes is in defence.
Conor Bradley is set to start ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will leave the club at the end of the season.
“Conor will start, he needs playing time, games under his belt to be prepared for next season,” Slot told reporters on Friday.
It’s also likely that Luis Diaz returns to the starting XI after being rested against Chelsea.
Diogo Jota, who started last weekend, is expected to drop to the bench.
In midfield, Harvey Elliott’s place is under threat.
The trio of Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alex Mac Allister are all pushing to start.
Jarrell Quansah’s spot is also in doubt.
He struggled again in Ibrahima Konate’s absence.
Slot hasn’t ruled him out completely, saying, “Consistency in his performances” is what Quansah needs to improve.
But Konate is expected to return, while Joe Gomez is still sidelined.
When asked if more changes would come, Slot said, “There are a lot of influences on decisions I make and one of them is losing.
I am not looking to lose all four but more things go into a line-up than losing or rotating, so we will see.”
Predicted Liverpool XI vs Arsenal:
Alisson Becker; Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones; Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo.
Liverpool want to end strong.
Arsenal won’t make it easy.
But with the title sealed and the home crowd behind them, there’s only one way to respond.
