Saturday’s Merseyside derby at Anfield promises plenty, although though weather warnings have cast a shadow over proceedings in familiar fashion for Liverpool and Everton supporters.

Liverpool head into the 12:30pm kick-off sitting pretty at the Premier League summit with a perfect record of four wins from four matches.

Arne Slot’s side have demonstrated remarkable resilience this season, securing victory in each of their opening fixtures through dramatic late goals – a habit that continued into their midweek Champions League triumph over Atletico Madrid.

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings that will bring back uncomfortable memories for both sets of supporters.

The forecast predicts widespread rainfall of 20-40mm across Merseyside between 9am Saturday and 6am Sunday, with some areas potentially seeing up to 100mm of precipitation.

Strong gusty winds and the possibility of thunder may compound travel delays and create pitch drainage concerns, though officials maintain the postponement remains unlikely given the medium impact rating and “very low likelihood” of severe disruption.

These warnings inevitably recall last season’s dramatic postponement, when Storm Darragh battered Merseyside with winds exceeding 70mph and torrential rain.

The December fixture at Goodison Park was called off following a Safety Advisory Group meeting involving both clubs, Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council, which concluded the amber severe wind warning posed unacceptable risks to supporters and staff.

David Moyes has never won at Anfield in the 20 attempts he’s had, and the Scot will be desperate to try and get all three wins.

The Toffees only have Jarrad Brainthwaite and full-back Vitalii Mykolenko to be concerned about ahead of the clash.

Meanwhile, Liverpool only had Curtis Jones out against Atletico Madrid but he is expected to be back in contention tomorrow afternoon.
