Liverpool will not make a second offer for Alexander Isak unless they are given encouragement a deal could be reached with Newcastle, talkSPORT understands.
In what has been the biggest transfer saga this summer, the Reds saw a £110million bid rejected by the Magpies for the Swedish striker at the start of the month.
Isak, who failed to feature in pre-season and has been absent for Newcastle's opening two games, has been vocal in his desire to depart St James' Park.
But it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will go back in for Isak with just days remaining in the window - and will only offer around £120m if they bid again.
Liverpool are unwilling to fork out Newcastle's £150m asking price - believing that fee will distort the market and would weaken their position for future deals.
Despite Isak remaining out of the picture at the moment, Newcastle are still prepared to hand him a new deal should he decide to reintegrate with his team-mates.
Eddie Howe's side remain keen to bring in a striker, with Brentford's Yoane Wissa and Wolves' Jorgen Strand Larsen identified as replacements for Callum Wilson, who left on a free transfer.
Newcastle have had two offers for rejected for Wissa - the latest being worth £40m - while they saw a £50m turned down by Wolves for Larsen on Monday.

Eddie Howe has provided a concerning update on Newcastle duo Sandro Tonali and Joelinton following the club's dramatic 3-2 defeat to Liverpool.
The Magpies first lost Tonali to what looked to be a shoulder injury in the 66th minute at St James' Park on Monday night.
Ten minutes later, Joelinton was fouled by Ryan Gravenberch, and on landing, appeared to damage his leg, with the midfielder immediately replaced by Jacob Ramsey.
The Brazilian could be seen looking emotional as he walked straight down the tunnel and had to be consoled by fellow Brazilian Bruno Guimaraes.
Speaking to beIN Sports after the match, Howe said of the duo: "Difficult for me to give a thorough assessment at the moment, but Joelinton's doesn't look good.
"Sandro Tonali's doesn't look good.
I don't know the full extent of it or Joelinton's.
"They both look threatening for us in the sense they could be out for a while."

Rio Ngumoha has made history with his goal.
He is the second 16-year-old in Premier League history to score the winning goal after Wayne Rooney.
Rooney did so for Everton against Arsenal in October 2002.
Ngumoha is just one day older - 16 years and 361 days - than Rooney was.

It's over.
The Premier League may only just be back, but that's one of the games of the season.
Ryan Gravenberch fired Liverpool in front before Anthony Gordon was sent off for his foul on Virgil van Dijk.
Hugo Ekitike had the visitors cruising moments in the second half, only for Bruno Guimaraes to reduce the deficit.
Newcastle thought they had nicked a point late on thanks to William Osula's goal.
But it was teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha who netted in the tenth minute of stoppage-time to win all three points for Liverpool.

talkSPORT understands that Newcastle United's opening offer for Jorgen Strand Larsen has been rejected.
The Magpies submitted a £50million bid for the striker, but the Old Gold have turned it down.
They insist Strand Larsen isn't for sale with just a week of the transfer window left.
The Norwegian international scored 14 Premier League goals last season for Wolves, and he is seen as a Callum Wilson replacement on Tyneside and not Alaxander Isak's.

The Athleic report that closes near to Dani Carvajal expect Xabi Alonso to stick with the experienced Spaniard as his right-back.
Los Blancos played Real Oviedo on Sunday, winning 3-0 with Carvajal starting over Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The England international didn't get on the pitch until the 87th minute, and it looks as if he has a real battle on his hands.
Carvajal is 33 and has just returned from an ACL injury, but sources in Spain suggest he is the number one right-back.
It is now up to Alexander-Arnold to force his way into the side when given opportunities.

talkSPORT understands that Crystal Palace are battling with Aston Villa to sign Jaydee Canvot.
The French centre-back would be a direct replacement for Marc Guehi, who would then be allowed to leave the club.
Canvot plays for Toulouse in Ligue 1, and the 19-year-old is extremely highly rated.
Last season, he made 18 Ligue 1 appearances, and this year, he has started the club's first two games.
Should Canvot arrive, Liverpool would be expected to come back in for Guehi.
