Ruben Selles has been sacked by Sheffield United, with Chris Wilder set for a shock return to the club, talkSPORT understands.

The Blades have Ruben Selles less than three months after he replaced Wilder as manager.

Sources close to the Championship's bottom club say Wilder is set for a third stint as boss.

Wilder was controversially axed 88 days ago after losing last season's play-off final, but Selles has lost all six of his games in charge.

Selles, who was sacked as Hull boss a month before his arrival in Bramall Lane in June, has lost another Championship job and becomes the first EFL boss axed this season.

Ruben Amorim believes he is helping Kobbie Mainoo's long-term development despite a lack of regular game time leading to the midfielder requesting a loan move away from Manchester United last month.

United rejected that request and Mainoo made his first Premier League appearance of the season as a second-half substitute in the 3-2 win over Burnley before the international window, but it is clear he faces a fight to break into Amorim's midfield this term.

"Like a lot of guys, he wants to play more," Amorim said.

He will have opportunities like the other guys."

Mainoo, who has made 73 first-team appearances for his boyhood club, broke through under Ten Hag but Amorim's system has put different demands on United's midfield.

Pep Guardiola is 'desperate' for Phil Foden to get back to full fitness and start enjoying his football again.

The England international endured a frustrating 2024-25 campaign for Manchester City, making only 20 starts and registering just seven goals and two assists in the Premier League.

It was a far cry from the previous season in which those figures were 33, 19 and eight respectively and he was named player of the year as City claimed a fourth successive title.

Fitness issues prevented him building any momentum and his start to the new term has been similarly frustrating, with the 25-year-old having played just 15 minutes in City's opening three games.

He was not included in England's latest squad but is now back in contention as City look to get back to winning ways after successive defeats when they host rivals Manchester United on Sunday.

With playmaker Kevin De Bruyne having departed, Foden is now one of City's most important creative outlets.

City manager Guardiola said: "He's the first I'm looking for.

He has to try anyway."

Well, wasn't that a frantic finish?

It looked like Chelsea would take home the win when Moises Caicedo scored in the 85th minute.

But those hopes were cruelled when Fabio Carvalho scored in second-half stoppage time to rescue a big point for the Bees.

Brentford's late goal also meant Chelsea would not be able to go into Sunday sitting top of the Premier League, although the Blues remain one of three teams still yet to be beaten this season.

I DON'T BELIEVE IT!

BRENTFORD ARE LEVEL!

A long throw was hurled into the Chelsea box and it's gone through absolutely everybody.

But Fabio Carvalho was there at the back post, completely unmarked, to slam home the equaliser.

Cue absolute pandemonium inside the Gtech Community Stadium as Brentford look to have nicked a valuable point deep in stoppage time.

VAR had a very brief look at the goal to add some extra drama, but luckily for Bees fans, the goal remained intact.

HOLY DOOLEY, PICK THAT ONE OUT!

Moises Caicedo has SURELY given Chelsea all three points with an absolute rocket from the edge of the box!

The midfielder was allowed to compose himself and let rip, powering a strike past Kelleher in the Brentford net.

With just a handful of minutes left before stoppage time, that could seal a vital three points for Enzo Maresca's side.

IT JUST HAD TO BE!

Cole Palmer was the coolest man inside the Gtech Community Stadium as he slammed home the rebound from a Joao Pedro header inside the box.

It was the perfect way for the star midfielder to mark his return from injury and did so just five minutes after coming on as a substitute in place of Jamie Gittens.

With 30 minutes left to play, who will nick this one?

50 SCHADES OF KEVIN!

It's the hosts who hit the front this evening at the Gtech and boy, what a brilliant bit of work that was from Schade.

Jordan Henderson played Schade in behind and the forward did brilliantly from there.

He drove with the ball and only had Tosin Adarabioyo in front of him.

And the Chelsea defender had no answer, as Schade slotted the ball between his legs and into the back of the net to put the Bees in front.

What a win by Tottenham!

The VAR drama might rumble on a little bit, but the real takeaway should be how Thomas Frank has this Spurs side purring.

The same cannot be said for Graham Potter, who is beginning to come under real pressure in the West Ham hotseat.

Tonight's result leaves them in the bottom-three, with just three points earned from their opening four games.
