talkSPORT brings you all the latest updates from the Premier League and beyond.

After midweek European action, the Premier League is back and back with a bang with a huge Merseyside derby to kick-off the weekend.

Liverpool vs Everton is LIVE on talkSPORT from 12:30pm - will the Toffees end their rivals' 100 per cent start, or will the Reds put in another late show to snatch three points?

We will also bring you EXCLUSIVE radio commentary of the 8pm kick-off between Fulhan and Brentford, with goals as they go in from today's other games including Manchester United vs Chelsea at 5:30pm.

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim issued a bullish response to calls for the United boss to change his system, insisting: "I'm doing things my way."

And talkSPORT understands Nuno Espirito Santo has been sounded out by West Ham as a possible replacement for Graham Potter, should the under-pressure boss get the sack.

Ruben Amorim said even the Pope could not make him change his style of play.

The Manchester United have faced calls to change his system to one that suits the strengths of the players in his squad, rather than shoehorn them into roles to fit his 3-4-2-1 formation.

It worked wonders for him at Sporting, but it's clear it's not working at United after another start to the season full of struggle.

The boss has insisted there will be 'evolution' in the way Man United play, saying his players just need more time to fully get to grips with his instructions and telling fans things will 'change' for the better.

But ultimately he insists he is sticking to his principles- and nobody can convince him to change his mind on that.

Which is just the news United fans would want to hear, ahead of facing Club World Cup champions Chelsea in the Premier League tonight in the 5:30pm game.

Amorim ahead ahead of the match: "Not even the Pope, it will not change...

“Now, if he's ready to start tomorrow, I think he's ready to start.”

However, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim refused to be drawn into commenting on a player he banished from his squad.

“Garnacho is not our player, I'm focused on our players,” the Red Devils boss said.

“I'm really happy with Mason [Mount] and [Matheus] Cunha returning, the rest you need to talk about with the Chelsea manager."

Pep Guardiola has joked that if Mikel Arteta wins the Premier League title, it's because he spent money - a barb often thrown at his Manchester City side.

On Arsenal's big spending over the summer, Guardiola said: "It's what it is.

So every team is better and better and better and I know the quality that all of them they have."

Ruben Amorim has joked that Sir Jim Ratcliffe offered him a new contract in their meeting yesterday.

Ratcliffe flew to Carrington yesterday for a number of meetings, one of which was with his under-fire Manchester United manager.

This time last year it was Erik ten Hag, who was sacked in similar circumstances, just months after he'd been handed a new deal.

On his meeting with Ratcliffe, Amorim joked: “He offered me a new contract!

It's not just Chelsea, it's any club in the world, I can promise you, Italy, Spain, England, France, USA, Brazil, any club in the world, when for any reason the player and the club doesn't find any solution and you give the player all the tools to do training sessions and to do everything but if you are not involved in the squad you are not involved in the squad.

"Again, I know that it's something that you like to talk about, but it's not about Chelsea, it's about any club in the world."

Graham Potter is facing a crunch clash at home to Crystal Palace, with West Ham actively sounding out potential replacements.

TalkSPORT understands Hammers officials have spoken with former Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

As reported on Thursday, former West Ham boss Slaven Bilic is also a contender to return to replace the under-pressure Potter.

Ex-Hammers midfielder Gary O’Neil, now a client of agent Will Salthouse, who has a close relationship with David Sullivan, would also be keen.

Potter has won just six of his 24 games in charge, and next month’s international break is viewed as a key landmark in the final decision on his future.

Russell Martin has opened up on his decision to send his Rangers team to Loch Lomond despite their poor season start.

Appointed in June, the pressure is already mounting on the English coach with the Gers languishing in 10th place in the Scottish Premiership.

The Glasgow outfit are yet to win a single league game under Martin, and currently boast just four points from a possible 15.

Some fans have begun to turn on their boss, who made their feelings known at Ibrox at the weekend.

Chants of 'Martin, get to f***', rang around the stadium during their 2-0 defeat to Hearts at Ibrox on Saturday.

Two days later, the Rangers squad were seen hiking Conic Hill and cold water swimming for team bonding.

At a press conference, Martin said: "To step away from the city and for the lads to take a breath is good.

"It's always been the plan, I've done it at every club I have been at.

"I think it was good, the lads enjoyed it, and it's good for them as young men.

"It set us up for a really good week of training."

A fan at St James' Park invaded the pitch last night and attempted to get near Marcus Rashford as he was picking up his Player of the Match award.

The Manchester United loanee was seemingly unaware of the situation as he toasted his first two Barcelona goals that secured a 2-1 win over Newcastle.

The supporter was swiftly tackled by security just behind Pedri, who was doing his usual scanning as he headed down the tunnel.

Tim Lewis is set to leave his position as Arsenal's executive vice-chair, reports the Athletic's David Ornstein.

The 62-year-old corporate lawyer has been advising the club's ownership group, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE), since 2007.

He became a director of the Gunners in September 2020, before being promoted to his current role less than three years later.

Newcastle legend Micky Quinn has told talkSPORT his old side's former striker Alexander Isak could form an iconic partnership with Florian Wirtz.

Liverpool broke the British transfer record with £116million Wirtz, and then did it again by making £125m Isak the third most expensive footballer in history.

So far Isak has played just 58 minutes while Wirtz has been a near constant, but only managed a single assist.

However, Liverpool-born Quinn thinks they have what it takes to aspire to the legendary club's greatest ever striker partnership.

I think Wirtz has put a lot of shifts in without settling into the way he plays and Liverpool plays at the moment but that will come.

"His first touch is sublime and he's absolutely everywhere as well."

A further clamp down on time wasting could hit throw-ins and corners.

The Press Association report that senior figures are considering whether to put forward a trial in an effort to improve fan expereince.

A new rule has already come into place this season which sees goalkeepers punished with an opposition corner if they hold onto the ball for more than eight seconds.

Stats Perform claim the average time a ball is in play has decreased by 133 seconds this season, with some attributing it to the number of teams implementing long throw-ins as set-piece opportunities.

Any rule change would have to be ratified by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) who hold their next annual meeting in February.

Michael Duff has been named the new Wycombe manager after Mike Dodds became the first League One manager sacked this season.

The Chairboys announced earlier today that they had parted company with Dodds and first-team coach Pete Shuttleworth.

The 39-year-old had been at Adams Park for seven months, having been hired in February.

Wycombe have endured a tough start to the League One season, winning just one of their eight games.

Less than two hours after confirming Dodds' departure, the club have announced Duff as his replacement.

Jose Mourinho is set to take his first Benfica training session this afternoon.

Reports from leading Portuguese outlet A Bola claim the former Chelsea boss is ready to prepare his new team for this weekend's match against AVS after signing a two-year contract.

A deal is yet to be announced, but Benfica have claimed it will be in a statement to their shareholders.

"Sport Lisboa e Benfica – Futebol, SAD informs that negotiations are underway for the hiring of coach José Mário dos Santos Mourinho Félix, which are expected to be concluded soon," the club wrote in a memo.

Mourinho touched down in his home country yesterday evening and told the media waiting for him why he's returning to Benfica just weeks after being sacked by Fenerbahce.

"My return to Portugal wasn't planned, but that what was in my mind as a natural consequence for my career would be to return to Portugal one day to coach the national team," he said.
