A BULLET HEADER FROM THE REDS CAPTAIN!
It's a simple corner delivered to the six-yard area, and Van Dijk steams in ahead of Chalobah to plant a header past Sanchez.
Liverpool have scored as many set-piece goals from April 13th onwards (4) as they managed in the previous eight months combined (4).
Only John Terry (19) and Dion Dublin (14) have scored more headed goals from corners in the Premier League than Van Dijk (13).
Liverpool have never lost a Premier League match in which Van Dijk has scored - unless they find another quickly, they could be about to!

PALMER RATTLES THE WOODWORK!
All that's missing from the Chelsea talisman's performance today is for him to end his goal drought, but he's been denied!
The England star shows a brilliant burst of acceleration to twist and power away from Bradley inside the area.
Alisson attempts to read Palmer's intentions at his near post by covering the cross, but instead the latter goes for goal.
However, Palmer's effort goes across the face and strikes the outside of the far post before coming back out.

Lavia's number goes up, and the Blues midfielder gestures to the travelling support as he receives an earful on the side of the pitch.
'You could have won the league,' sing the away end to Lavia as he's subbed off and walks past them.

Cole Palmer has won the most duels (5), created the most joint-most chances (3) and had the joint-most touches in the opposition box (5) of any player on the pitch this afternoon.
Jarell Quansah's own goal was Liverpool's 47th in the Premier League, drawing them level with Arsenal and Fulham and with only five teams scoring more than them - Everton (61), Aston Villa (57), West Ham (51), Tottenham (50) and Manchester United (48).

WHAT A MISS FROM NUNEZ!
Salah cuts inside from the right and dinks a teasing cross for Liverpool's No.9 to attack, but he gets the header all wrong.
It harmlessly bounces wide, and Slot decides it's time to turn to his heavy hitters.
Mac Allister and Szoboszlai are on for Endo and Elliott.

Bradley almost instantly involved in a Liverpool fightback!
The Northern Irishman proves too strong for Cucurella in a 50/50 duel and races into space inside the box.
He has Nunez square across the face of goal, but instead attempts to pull the ball back for Salah, but his header is cut out by Chalobah.

THE BLUES DOUBLE THEIR LEAD IN COMICAL CIRCUMSTANCES!
Palmer twists Tsimikas inside and out before firing a low cross for Madueke to seemingly tap home from a yard out.
However, he's denied by a stunning sliding tackle from Endo.
Van Dijk then lashes a wild clearance against Quansah, who could do nothing but see it cannon past Alisson into his own net.

After not going in at half-time ahead in six consecutive Premier League matches, Chelsea have now led at the break in each of their last two, both 1-0 and against the two Merseyside clubs.
Having only trailed at half-time in three of their first 13 Premier League away games this season, Liverpool have since gone into the break behind in three of their last five on the road.

The hosts take the advantage into half-time courtesy of a goal within three minutes of the opening kick-off.
Perhaps still a bit tired after their championship celebrations, Liverpool conceded the first time the Blues ventured forward.
Fernandez popped up on the end of Neto’s cross to finish past Alisson from the penalty spot and give the Blues the advantage.
From there, Maresca’s team sat back and ceded possession to their opponents, looking to hit on the counter-attack for a bit of insurance.
Despite managing just one shot on target and an xG of 0.33 (compared to Chelsea’s 0.96), the Reds could have been more threatening if not for several poor touches in the final third.
Neto came closest to finding the back of the net again with a minute to go before half-time, but he dragged his finish into the side-netting.

The whistle goes as Fernandez's goal inside the first three minutes remains the difference between the two sides.
Liverpool's fringe players haven't shown up so far - and shown, perhaps, why Slot has been so reluctant to use them until now.

Madueke rounds Alisson before rolling the ball into an empty net, but is denied by the offside flag against Jackson earlier in the move.
Really poor movement from Chelsea's striker, who had been standing several yards behind the last Liverpool defender.
And there was an air of understanding that his goal wouldn't count by the way in which Madueke put the ball across the line.

An Alexander-Arnold hanging cross is nodded behind by Neto, despite no one in a Red shirt being anywhere near him.
Groans emerge from the Stamford Bridge faithful, but Liverpool fail to make the most of the gifted opportunity.
A corner is swung in looking for Van Dijk, but Sanchez shows great command of his six-yard area to punch clear.

Caicedo strikes the woodwork!
Following a spell of Liverpool pressure, the home side come back on the front-foot as Madueke twists Alexander-Arnold inside and out.
He releases Cucurella on the overlap, whose low-driven cross causes havoc in the penalty area but doesn't fall for a Chelsea shirt.
Tsimikas can only poke the ball into Caicedo's path, and the £115m man tries to stand up a deep cross for a teammate at the back post.
Instead, it glances the top of Alisson's crossbar as it sails behind.

Signs of life from the champions!
An unusually heavy touch from Salah fails to kill a cleverly disguised ball from Alexander-Arnold that would have released him inside the box.
Liverpool maintain their pressure and have the opportunity to stand up a free-kick after Gakpo is chopped down by Caicedo.
Tsimikas delivers towards Jota, but Chelsea clear their lines.

Neto has a half-hearted appeal for a penalty following a tussle with Tsimikas.
The Chelsea winger looked to beat his man on the outside before theatrically throwing himself to the turf.
His appeals are instantly waved away, but Chelsea are really pushing for a decisive second goal here.

Big moments from both teams as Gakpo cuts in off the left flank but only curls an effort straight into Sanchez's middle.
Jackson is then released down the other end and is wiped out by Alisson, who came charging well out of his goal.
The Liverpool goalkeeper is saved from receiving a red card by the offside flag.

FROM BOOS TO CHEERS!
Fittingly, it's Blues stand-in captain Fernandez who slots in an opener inside three minutes to give the home side the lead.
A slip from Jones in midfield allows Caicedo to bring the ball forward and find Palmer.
Neto takes over towards the byline and cuts the ball back to the penalty spot, where Fernandez arrives unchecked.
He takes a touch to set himself and then buries it into the bottom corner.
Fernandez's goal (2:47) is Chelsea's earliest Premier League goal at Stamford Bridge since Antonio Rüdiger v Stoke in December 2017 (2:33).

Ruben Amorim, speaking to Sky Sports, on Matthijs de Ligt injury: "I don't know, so I'm really concerned - not about Thursday.
At this moment, we are losing games in the Premier League.
We are fighting for the Europa league and Thursday is the most important game for us."
On next season: "We are not ready to play Premier League competitively and be in the Champions League, but we need to win and we need to win this competition to give something to our fans.
"Then we will have time to prepare the team to cope with those two competitions."
