Chris Kavanagh will continue his Premier League duties despite the contentious call to send off Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes.

The decision was made ahead of United's successful appeal that saw the red card overturned on Tuesday afternoon.

Ex-Premier League ref Dermot Gallagher weighed in, suggesting the on-pitch call was a mistake, calling the incident an "optical illusion" and advocating for a yellow card instead.

Kavanagh in any case will return to action this Saturday, albeit from the VAR hub at Stockley Park, overseeing Everton's encounter with Newcastle United at Goodison Park.

He'll then take center stage again on Sunday when Chelsea meet Nottingham Forest.

"I can understand the referee not seeing it, but the assistant seeing it conveys that message, but it's got lost."
