Premier League and UEFA share Diogo Jota statements after Liverpool star's tragic death

Diogo Jota has passed away, aged 28.

Both the Premier League and UEFA have shared statements to pay tribute to Diogo Jota after the Liverpool star died in a car accident.



The 28-year-old is thought to have been travelling alongside his brother, Andre Silva, in the Zamora region of Spain when the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning.



Zamora provincial council have reported that firefighters were called to the scene on the A52, known as the Palacios de Sanabria, after the vehicle caught fire.



Zamora News have then reported that emergency services responded to the incident shortly before 1am.

Liverpool have issued their own statement paying tribute to Jota and Andre.

They are joined by Jota's former club, Wolves, along with several other sides from across Europe in sending their messages of condolences to the forward, his brother and their family.

The Premier League have also paid tribute to Jota and his brother Andre with their statement, which was posted on social media.

"Everyone at the Premier League is shocked and devastated to learn of the tragic passing of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre," the Premier League statement read.

"Our sincerest condolences go to Diogo's family, friends, Liverpool FC, and all of their supporters at this heart-breaking time.

We will continue to support our friends and colleagues at the club."

UEFA have joined the Premier League in posting their own statement to pay tribute to Jota and Andre.

"On behalf of the European football community, we are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Diogo Jota, Portugal international and Liverpool FC forward, along with his brother Andre Silva," read a statement from UEFA.

"Our thoughts are with their family, friends, teammates and allthose affected by this heart-breaking loss."
