The Premier League have confirmed the match officials for Saturday’s clash between Liverpool and Everton at Anfield.

Liverpool secured a late victory once again, as a fourth successive win maintained their 100% start in the defence of their Premier League title at Burnley.

In a game largely devoid of clear-cut chances, it was Mohamed Salah who struck a 95th-minute penalty after Hannibal Mejbri handled Jeremie Frimpong’s last-gasp cross.

The manner of the victory highlights that Liverpool’s earliest winning goal across their four wins so far came in the 83rd minute, against Arsenal.

Arne Slot said after the game: “I know how hard it is to create chances against a team that’s with 11 players in their 18-yard box.

“It’s by the way very good that they do this because they’ve almost got a point so I’m not saying anything negative about it, I’m just trying to explain how difficult it is against a Premier League team because they are very good players as well.

“If they defend with all of them back and they hardly try to bring the ball out from the back because the goalkeeper every time plays long, and we don’t score from a set-piece, then the only thing you can score from is open play – and open play is quite difficult if you have to outplay 11 players in their own 18-yard box.”

Next up is the Merseyside derby at Anfield against Everton.

Everton were unfortunate at home against Aston Villa but extended their unbeaten run to four matches across all competitions.

The fixture ended goalless, despite David Moyes’ side creating several goalscoring opportunities at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The 62-year-old is yet to win a single match at Anfield in 20 attempts across managerial stints with Everton (twice), West Ham (twice), Manchester United, and Sunderland – drawing six and losing the other 14 visits.

On Monday, the top flight announced the officials appointed for all 10 fixtures in game week five.

Darren England will serve as the on-field referee, with Lee Betts and Scott Ledger acting as his assistants.

Bobby Madley has been appointed as the fourth official.

Meanwhile, John Brooks will oversee VAR operations, assisted by Akil Howson.
