Celtic could be bracing for offers from Premier League clubs for star right-back Alistair Johnston after the Canadian opened the door for a move to England.

Sources told Football Insider on 13 September that Celtic and Brendan Rodgers’ talks broke down, with the Northern Irishman feeling he was not financially backed over the summer.

The lack of marquee additions to the Hoops squad has seen Rodgers trying everything to keep Daizen Maeda at Celtic after the Japanese star made it clear he may seek to play football away from Glasgow, Football Insider revealed.

The winger’s possible exit could fuel a Rodgers and Raheem Sterling reunion at Celtic as Football Insider exclusively revealed on 20 September that the pair’s Liverpool history could be a pivotal factor in the prospective move.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, another concern for the Bhoys is holding on to Johnston, who is open to a move to the Premier League.

Sources told Football Insider on 19 September that Celtic are strongly against letting Johnston leave in January.

Although the 26-year-old has been candid in his intrigue of playing in England, stating that the Premier League is a “dream for any player” (67 Hail Hail).

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast over the Canadian’s desire to head to the English top-flight in the future, I explained: “Obviously, Johnston was quite honest saying that it would be a ‘dream’ to play in the Premier League as it is for most people.

“If Premier League clubs do come calling, then maybe something could happen.

I don’t imagine that he’d be pushing for any type of move in January, in the summer that might be a different story.”

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 14 September that Premier League and European clubs are eyeing up Rodgers following his discontent in Glasgow.

The former Leicester City boss’ exit could pave the way for players to follow suit, with fans growing uneasy over a lack of investment for the long-term future of the club.

Johnston is one of the Hoops that has shone under the Northern Irishman, and his departure could prompt the Canadian to leave Celtic Park.

The right-back is under contract until the end of the 2028-29 season, but his electric performances have garnered the attention of clubs within England.
