The Premier League have explained why Liverpool were denied a late winner against Arsenal.

Andy Robertson turned the ball into the net with virtually the last kick of the game.

The Liverpool left-back lashed home in the 96th minute after Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya had saved a header from Virgil van Dijk.

Referee Anthony Taylor immediately blew for a foul by Reds centre-back Ibrahima Konate on Arsenal full-back Myles Lewis-Skelly.

The decision went to the VAR and after a quick check the officials at Stockley Park agreed with Taylor's initial call.

The Premier League Match Centre then tweeted: "The referee’s call of no goal was checked and confirmed by VAR - with it deemed that Konate fouled Lewis-Skelly in the build-up."

The final whistle was blown moments later as the match between the Premier League's top two finished in a 2-2 draw at Anfield.

Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz had put the newly crowned champions into a commanding 2-0 lead at half-time.

But second-placed Arsenal fought back after the break as goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Mikel Merino, who was later sent off for two yellow cards, ensured honours ended even.

The result means Liverpool, who have two games left to play, remain 15 points clear of the Gunners.

"The save is remarkable and the finish is simple.

"It's a foul on Lewis-Skelly, he pushes him in the face.
